Oh. Well hello there! 🙋

I’m David, the founder of Simpyll. Congrats on finding this super secret and hidden corner of the internet!

Just kidding. Well, kinda…

In all seriousness though, the fact that you here means that google decided that this website was made specifically for you.

So what does that say about you?

Well, I made this blog for that rare type of person who I can only describe as intellalytivated (intelligent, analytical and motivated!)

Now that you’re here, let’s get to the meat and potatoes of what Simpyll is all about.

Simpyll means different things to different people

First of all, welcome. This is my personal blog where I write technical, entertaining (at least in my delusional version of reality), and medical articles that are evidence based and/or backed up by data.

It’s important to keep in mind that simple does not equal easy. The arch linux wiki defines simplicity “as without unnecessary additions or modifications.” This is the way I define Simpyll. With that in mind, let’s get started.

You will read on a vast array of topics including, but not limited to healthcare, organic lawn care, computer hacking, bodybuilding, and even (gasp!) medical marijuana.

Why so many different topics?

Well, a wise man once said:

“True intelligence isn’t knowing a lot about one topic, but rather knowing just a little about many topics.”

Most authorities in the blog space would agree that it’s a bad strategy to have such a broad scope of topics on any single website. I do agree with them that this niched down approach is ideal for anyone trying to make it big online or even make a living.

Guess what though?

That isn’t my goal. So, what are my goals you might ask? Well, there are several:

  • Improve my writing skills.
  • Provide high qualty information.
  • Provide useful information.
  • Learn through teaching.
  • Most of all this blog is an outlet.

Why do I need an outlet?

Let me tell you a little about me.

About the author

I work in trauma ICU as an RN and CCRN. Research has shown that ICU nurses have rates of PTSD equivalent to that of war veterans. Not saying I have PTSD, but I do see people die everyday and a lot of other fucked up shit.

Don’t get me wrong. I absolutely love my job. Saving lives for a living is great. Not to mention the adrenaline rush! It’s just that I see the worst of the worst on a day to day basis. I needed a coping strategy, you know, to keep things simpyll, to lighten the mood a little. This website is it!

About the name

As you may have guessed, Simpyll is pronounced “simple”.

You’ll notice that simpyll is spelled with ‘pyll’ as opposed to ‘ple’ and that’s my clever little play on words. Simpyll is built using Jekyll - aka “the hackers blogging platform”.

This blogging framework, Jekyll, is super easy to use and for lack of a better word… it’s simple. Believe it or not, my entire blog is build out of text files! I literally write something in a text document, press save, and boom! A new page is created on my website.

Cool huh? Oh and the best part?

It’s free and open source!

I totally encourage you to check it out.
